The holidays are upon us, and if you’re not sure what to get your favorite reader in the family here are some of my absolute favorite reads of 2022 in no particular order.
Non Fiction
It’s What I Do by Lynsey Addario. If your favorite reader is into the non-fiction and memoir, and interested in what journalism, traveling the world is like, then this is a good book to read. It’s also a good book to read for anyone considering to make photojournalism a career.
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero. For anyone struggling with lack of confidence in their abilities to be true to themselves and what they best can provide to the world of talent, this books a good one to read, so long as you are aware that the language is for more mature audiences.
Discover Your Dharma by Sahara Rose Ketabi. This is an approach of discovering your purpose for being here, and it explains the different types of energies that someone embodies and how that plays out on what they would like to happen in their life. If your reader is into the spiritual and the unseen, this is a good book for them to read, especially as they dive into Human Design.
Science Fiction
The Red Rising Series by Pierce Brown. This encompasses several books including 1, 2, 3, 4, and the 5th one which I have not read yet. I really enjoyed the series for its unique perspective on human takeover of planets, and how one man rises above despite his meager beginnings via deception, and friendship. I do think that the 4th book kind of slowed down a bit, but the first three were amazing and I just loved the action by Darrow and his group of friends in the fight to liberate the galaxy from the tyrant Sovereign.
Fiction
A Shadow in the Ember by Jennifer L. Armentrout. A story between a mortal who carries the ember of life in her, and has been trained from childhood to kill the Primal of Death, but ultimately falls in love with him. This is actually a series that I am very much looking forward to in 2023.
The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L. Armentrout. A continuation of the Blood and Ash Series that features romance, and a strong desire by the main character to find the man she loves, while also liberating the country for their protection. Definitely do not start this book without reading the other three in this series, so it could be a series purchase for your favorite reader. My big thing about this series is that it is a strong female character that grows through these series and has magic that can change lives but also it is a bit of a romance.
A Ruin of Roses Series by K.F. Breene. This consists of four books: A Ruin of Roses, A Throne of Ruin, A Kingdom of Ruin, and A Queen of Ruin. I feel like it was an epic spin on an old and familiar fairytale (but I may be biased because I loved this fairytale as a child). It’s a Beauty and the Beast meets the shapeshifter world with a king and queen who fight for a kingdom that seems to have been forgotten by everyone else, while they fall in love with each other and help each other heal.
