In 2020, I’ve read over 30 books, and there were some books and series that stood out to me more than others this year.
From Blood and Ash Series
There are so far two books in this series–From Blood and Ash is the first one, and the second one is A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire. Both books, which you can read the review of here and here, really amazed me with their story. I loved Poppy and Casteel as characters, and can’t wait to see the next installment in the series, which is set to come out on April 20, 2021. Yes, you betcha I already pre-ordered this one.
The Four Hour Workweek
Now this book was one of my favorites because of how useful the information provided in the book is for both working in corporate America and running your own business. Timothy Ferris has so many tips and tricks in this book that allows you to take back control of your time. I will most likely re-read this book in the near future to remind myself of the premises (though I am not the type to re-read books). You can read the review here.
Humans
As a photographer, I appreciate this book for it’s beautiful photography and the stories that come with those photos. It’s been inspiring to see the day-to-day life of humans across the globe, who are not so different than myself while being unique. You can read the review here, though I recommend you consider looking at the book yourself as it’s a super easy read.
Becoming
Michelle Obama’s memoir was super inspiring. It really gave me an insight into who she was before and during the presidency–the challenges that she faced, and how she actually over came them. One thing that I think stood out for me with this book, is how she wasn’t happy with the law firm she was working at so she took a chance on a job that she wanted to try. Many people wouldn’t be so willing to jump out on a limb and hope for the best with their jobs as they tend to seek comfort. So my one word for this book was “fearless.” Read more about it here.
Moj Szef
I really enjoyed this book because it was challenging for me to read in a different language, yet at the same time it was such a good story because it was so different. I have yet to encounter another book where you see a relationship develop between someone who is disabled/neuro-diverse and someone who is not. The review is here.
Alex Verus Series
I started this series in 2018/2019, but really read the bulk of it in 2020. I love the fantasy world created by the author in London, involving a Mage who owns a shop, and his friends. I’ve written the reviews for Chosen, Hidden, Veiled, Burned, Bound, Marked, and Fallen this year, and every single one of them has been a continuation of the prior, bringing the story of Alex Verus. There’s one last book, Forged, which came out in the fall of 2020 and that I haven’t read. It’s on my to-read list for 2021.
So there you have it, my 6 favorites (ok, really like 13 if I’m being honest!) from 2020! Let’s see what 2021 has in store! Any books that you’d all recommend/want to know more about but don’t want to read? Drop them below👇🏻
great wrap up! I really want to read Becoming but I’m not big on autobiographies so still undecided but the others sound really interesting!

Happy New Year! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. You know, I feel the same exact way—I’ve struggled through autobiographies and biographies before, and just couldn’t deal with reading them no matter how hard I tried, usually putting them down and never finishing them. So I had a lot of concerns going into reading Becoming, but what I quickly found out was that Michelle’s style of writing is very story telling based, rather than stating the dry facts that I find so many autobiographies do. She’s telling you the stories, and also sometimes what she was thinking, so you got to see inside her head and many times I connected with her. So I found it easier to read and follow than typical autobiographies, and enjoyed it so much. But I can absolutely understand your hesitation—trust your intuition, and if you’re not sure about it, don’t read it until you’re ready to do so!
